Cameras on phones

Most mobile phones, including expensive ones, come with cameras that boast of back and front cameras. In general, back cameras are more powerful and front cameras (which are good for taking selfies) are less so. Optics as well as hardware and software behind them have improved remarkably in recent years but the best mobile phone cameras are still not as good as digital cameras. One reason for this is the design of mobiles: as these have to be thin, there is no possibility of an optical zoom. Some mobiles boast of big megapixels but these are not much use beyond a point; pixels only tell about how big sized the photo canvas is, not about its quality.

What has improved quite a bit is video taking capabilities of mobile phones.
